Community groups said the people have been granted asylum, meaning they’re legally allowed to stay in the U.S. without fear of deportation.“Philadelphia has made a really solid intention to be a welcoming city, so that folks arriving, regardless of what they’ve had to deal with over the last 2 months, they know that they’re welcome here and there’s folks waiting to support them.”
Migrants in PhiladelphiaMonday morning, a bus carrying about 50 people arrived at 30th Street Station from Texas. The city described it as the second bus sent from Texas. The city has a welcoming facility in North Philadelphia that provides health screenings, shelter, food and water and other services.“We are ready,” Emilio Buitrago, the founder of immigrant advocacy group Casa de Venezuela, previously told CBS3.
