North Central Expressway currently has four general-purpose lanes, and this project will add a fifth.
Additionally, without plastic pylons separating the new lanes, Webb said he is hopeful the new project will improve road safety and prevent accidents. Pylons along U.S. 75 are often found in dilapidated condition due to drivers running them over.

Before construction can begin, the plan must go out for public hearing sometime in the spring. After receiving an environmental clearance from certain groups, it will then go out for bidding to contractors, who willHartzel said he expects the technology lanes to take about three years to complete, or sometime around 2026.
