John Kerry, the U.S. climate envoy, called on China to work in unison with the U.S. to make urgent reductions to greenhouse gas emissions, pointing to the international alliances that came out of World War II as an example for tackling climate change, the Associated Press reported.
Acknowledging the tensions between the U.S. and China, Kerry said that the future of the planet depends on cooperation between the two rival nations. Both must raise their ambitions, he added. "The climate crisis is the test of our own times, and while it may be unfolding in slow motion, to some, this test is as acute and as existential as any previous one," Kerry said."Time is running out."
