A military spokesperson told Newsweek that a drone strike had taken out 'an imminent ISIS-K threat' on Sunday.

confirmed that it carried out a drone strike on Sunday, successfully taking out what appeared to be an explosives-packed vehicle heading toward Kabul's international airport.

Captain Bill Urban, a spokesperson for U.S. Central Command, confirmed the air strike in a statement emailed to"U.S. military forces conducted a self-defense unmanned over-the-horizon airstrike today on a vehicle in Kabul, eliminating an imminent ISIS-K threat to Hamad Karzai International airport," Urban said.

"We are confident we successfully hit the target. Significant secondary explosions from the vehicle indicated the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material," the military spokesperson explained. "We are assessing the possibilities of civilian casualties, though we have no indications at this time. We remain vigilant for potential future threats."
