U.S. pole vaulter Sam Kendricks tested positive for Covid-19, knocking the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist out of the Tokyo Games
U.S. pole vaulter Sam Kendricks tested positive for Covid-19 and won’t compete at the Tokyo Games,The 2016 Olympic bronze medalist, Kendricks is currently ranked No. 2 in the world in the event.
“In alignment with local rules and protocols, he has been transferred to a hotel to be placed in isolation and is being supported by the USATF and USOPC staff,” according to a second tweet from the USOPC’s news feed. In a third tweet, the USOPC wrote, “Sam is an incredible and accomplished member of Team USA and his presence will be missed. Out of respect for his privacy, we cannot provide more information at this time.”
USA Track & Field said in a statement that Kendricks and his close contacts “were immediately notified and protocols were activated to isolate the athlete. We are following the USOPC and guidance on next steps to ensure the safety of the remainder of our delegation, and to offer support to Sam.”
