The fourth-seeded Huskies are showing they might have been under-seeded, but a 2-6 stretch after Christmas put too big of a blemish on their résumé to move up any higher. They've played like anything but a 4-seed since that January swoon, winning 14 of their last 16 games, including rolling through the NCAA Tournament with Saturday night'sFifth-seeded San Diego State, meanwhile, has won nine straight, but enters the title game battle-tested.
The Huskies and Aztecs, who will make up the first 4 seed vs. 5 seed national title game in the tournament's history, also are both coached by defensive-minded leaders. UConn has limited opponents to 64.4 points per game and held them to 40.4% shooting from the floor, which ranks 20th in the country. San Diego State's opponents averaged just 62.9 points and shot 40.8% from the floor.
UConn coach Dan Hurley said he'll be looking for a scouting report from his brother Bobby Hurley, whose Arizona State team lost to San Diego State in both of their meetings the past three seasons.
