The truck was a UDOT mechanic truck, which authorities said left the road, crashed through a fence and went into a canal. The canal is west of where water treatment begins.
SALT LAKE CITY — Crews responded Monday morning after a Utah Department of Transportation truck crashed into a canal in Big Cottonwood Canyon.Unified Fire Department said it responded to the utility truck crash around 9:45 a.m. Monday.
No injuries were reported. The driver of the truck was able to pull himself out, according to a water treatment facility manager who was at the scene. Officials said the truck leaked differential fluid, but crews cleaned up and contained the leak. According to the water treatment facility manager, there's no threat to the drinking water because of where the leak was located. Hazardous materials crews were there to make sure nothing leaked into a nearby creek.The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
