With 3 minutes, 4 seconds left in Friday’s game against Tulane, the Cougars had a 21-14 lead. All they had to do was make one more defensive stop.Forced to overtime for a school record third time in five games, the Cougars lost to Tulane 27-24 at TDECU Stadium. Bubba Baxa converted a 36-yard field goal in the first overtime for the Cougars. But Tulane, behind third-string quarterback Kai Horton, clinched the game on a 10-yard pass to Tyjae Spears.UH took a 21-14 lead with about three minutes remaining when Clayton Tune hooked up with Nathaniel “Tank” Dell for his second touchdown of the game.
But like three other games this season, the Cougars could not make a defensive stop in the closing minutes. Tulane went on an 11-play, 75-yard drive, capped by a 3-yard shovel pass from Horton to Tyrick James.
