U.K. Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt hit back Tuesday at Donald Trump for criticizing Britain's ambassador to the U.S. and Prime Minister Theresa May
Hunt said U.S. diplomats gave their private opinions to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and U.K. diplomats did the same to their bosses in Britain.
"You said the UK/US alliance was the greatest in history and I agree," Hunt tweeted,"but allies need to treat each other with respect as @theresa_may has always done with you. Ambassadors are appointed by the UK government and if I become PM our Ambassador stays." Hunt is in a battle with his predecessor as foreign secretary, Boris Johnson, to succeed May as British prime minister and leader of the Conservative party.
