Given UMG’s size, Grainge likely has plenty of lieutenants on hand to handle day-to-day decision-making at the music giant.
It may not be so easy across the broader business. Several music industry insiders who spoke on the condition of anonymity pointed out that the sector has already reached a maximal level of concern after a spate of event cancellations. Indeed, the coronavirus has brought concerts—the industry’s financial lifeblood—to an almost complete standstill, with no clear timeline around when they’ll resume.
