Haitian officials: 17 American missionaries kidnapped in the country
Jovenel Moise, a political outsider coming from humble origins, was assassinated by Colombian mercenaries apparently under the payroll of a US security firm.
According to local security sources in the country, about 17 US Christian missionaries were kidnapped by a gang in Haiti.The kidnapping on Saturday happened in the country's capital Port-au-Prince. According to local officials, details surrounding the kidnapping remain unclear, but the missionaries were heading towards the airport.
Haiti has been in the grip of political upheaval for decades. A breakdown in law and order has seen the country descend into instability. In July of this year, the country's political turmoil deepened further after the country's president, Jovenel Moise, was assassinated at his home, a killing that is still shrouded in mystery.
