Peter Dundas proposed elevated festivalwear with a boho vibe, while others highlighted the form with draperies à la grecque. Delicate pastels balanced out the darker palette seen at Christian Dior, where Maria Grazia Chiuri showed an almost all-black collection.
Color and romance have become the signature of Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli, and he delivered both in his tear-inducing lineup. Among his proposals were fringe and animal prints, which prowled through many a show. Tailoring, a major story in the last round of ready-to-wear shows, was also strong. As Vogue Runway’s Nicole Phelps noted, several collections opened with a suit; Alexandre Vauthier’s were especially neat.
Adding interest to the week’s proceedings were dramatic sleeve and shoulder treatments that nodded, depending on your perspective, to the still-trending 1980s or to seraphim. But the stars of the season were the dream dresses, seemingly inspired by Shakespearean heroines. Many were full-skirted, caped, or had floor-sweeping sleeves. For the client who wears one of these, all the world is sure to be a stage.
