After losing four out of five in a key series with the Mets, the Atlanta Braves have drawn the ace up their sleeve to try to chase down first place.
“I didn’t feel a thing. I didn’t feel one thing,” Grissom said. “Literally, I hit it and blacked out until I saw my first-base coach and just started laughing.”
Grissom played the game at second base, a position that had been lacking production ever since Albies went down with a fractured foot in June. His homer gave the Braves a 5-1 lead and he later singled and scored to put the finishing touches on the 8-4 triumph. “He did everything,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said of Grissom. “He did great. Nothing fazed him. That power is real.”
The 21-year-old is the second young gun to be promoted straight from Double-A to the Braves’ lineup. Michael Harris II, the Braves’ former top prospect, was promoted in May and gave the team instant production. Atlanta will be hoping for the same from Grissom.“It was like a ‘We made it’ moment, I guess,” Grissom said of his interaction with Harris after the homer. “Like, a ‘We did it’ type of feeling.
