With Sony's Morbius delayed until April, Venom: Let There Be Carnage returns to select theaters on January 14. The Venom sequel made $212 million domestically in its initial run.
Venom 2 is returning to theaters after Sony pushed Morbius back to April. It’s been a great couple of months for the Spider-Man movie universe thanks to Disney and Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Sony’s Venom of course existed in an entirely separate universe from the MCU’s Spider-Man when the first Venom movie was released back in 2018 and went on to gross $856 million worldwide. That huge box office take in fact likely played a big role in Marvel Studios electing to later embrace Sony's Venom by consenting to both Venom 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Home featuring universe-knitting post-credits scenes.
Hungry for another bite? #Venom: Let There Be Carnage is back in select theaters January 14, also on Blu-Ray, 4K Ultra HD, and Digital! https://t.co/jXcCnOLqrE pic.twitter.com/gmgxuaL8oKVenom: Let There Be Carnage of course already racked up a healthy box office return in its initial release with a worldwide gross of $501 million worldwide.
Given the weak box office for most new releases since No Way Home, there’s a fair chance that Venom 2 could actually scare up a decent-sized audience as it returns to theaters on a select basis. Of course the movie will have at least a little competition as the Scream reboot also hits theaters on January 14.
