Venom's '90s trading gets epic fan animation.
Marvel Comics trading cards were all the rage back in the ‘90s, with classic characters like Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Venom pictured in awesome action poses on the front, with their stats and descriptions written on the back. At the risk of seeming biased, they were awesome, and probably the coolest collectible for Marvel Comics fans aside from the action figures and the comics themselves.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT This fan animation is based on the Venom trading card from the 1991 Impel Marvel Universe Series II Trading Cards. The card is designated #58 in the series, and it depicts an image of Venom leaping through the city, with his stats and description written on the back.
Venom Fan Animation Makes Classic ‘90s Card WAY Cooler In an Instagram post by user Joel Furtado , the artist shared their fan animation based on the aforementioned Venom trading card, and it’s truly a treat for new and old fans alike. The video’s border is that of the original card, with the area that would be reserved for the still image of the character replaced with Eddie Brock running into frame, dropping to his knees, and transforming into Venom right before fans’ eyes.
Right off the bat, there are a few notable differences between the original card and this fan animation . Rather than Venom leaping through New York City, he’s shown on the street, underneath the edgy, dramatic light of a streetlamp. Another difference is one of convenience to fans looking at it, as it specifically shows Eddie Brock transforming into Venom right on the front, making it unnecessary to look on the back of the card to see exactly which Venom is being featured.
All-in-all this fan made animation is incredible, as it pays perfect homage to the classic 1991 Venom trading card on which it’s based, while also adding something totally new and original to a fanbase that’s been passionately involved in the Marvel Comics collectibles for decades with animated fanart that gives Venom’s ‘90s trading card the ultimate upgrade.
