The 19-year-old French basketball phenom, Victor Wembanyama, arrived in the U.S. Monday with an enthusiastic welcome ahead of this week's NBA Draft, the first step in a much-hyped career ahead of him. "Wemby" appears destined to be with the San Antonio Spurs, who won the first pick during the NBA Draft lottery on May 16.
Since then, Spurs fans can't seem to get enough of him, watching his interviews and already making custom Spurs jerseys in advance. Fans swarmed the prospect as his flight landed at Newark International Airport on Monday afternoon ahead of the NBA Draft in Brooklyn. He signed basketballs, posters and even a Spurs jersey with his name and the number one on it for a man in a Spurs jersey.
“I don’t know how they knew what flight I was on, but it’s fun,” Wembanyama said in a video posted on the NBA’s Twitter account. “It’s different, seeing that you can have such an impact on people.”📅 Thursday, June 22, 8pm/et on ABC/ESPN
