Authorities say that shortly before he was stopped by Edney, the man — identified as Brad Baymon, 42, of Minnesota — stole a pair of shoes and tried to stab a security guard in a Macy’s at the Santa Rosa Plaza mall. “I left it exposed like an idiot, and he jumped right in,” Edney told a Santa Rosa police officer who responded to the scene after the shooting. He told the officer that he saw Baymon reach for a knife while he was trying to get him out of the car.
