A dollar store security guard on the city's West Side was stabbed by a customer, and on the East Side, a clerk at a beauty supply store was beaten by a customer so badly that he lost a tooth, police say.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Police charged two people this week in separate assaults that hospitalized two Cleveland store employees.
Responding officers followed a trail of blood leading into the store, where the security guard, 47, was sitting on a chair and bleeding profusely from his arm, according to a police report. When the guard gave chase, the suspect dropped the Pampers and disappeared behind a truck parked outside. Assuming the thief had fled the area, the guard bent down to pick up the Pampers. With his back turned, the suspect reappeared and hit the employee’s arm, he told police. He felt blood dripping down the arm and realized he had been cut.
That incident occurred on April 20. The 44-year-old clerk told police that he saw the customer slip a piece of jewelry into his pocket in an attempt to steal it, according to a report. After the clerk rang him up for the item, the customer began calling him names and told him to step around the counter, the report says.
