Following the questionable decision of the Russian electoral authorities to bar a host of opposition and independent candidates from running in the election, citing too many fraudulent signatures in support of their candidacy, the citizens of Moscow have taken to the streets to protest for free and fair elections. With crowds up to 60,000 people, these mass demonstrations have become the longest sustained protests since Putin's return to power as president in 2012.
