The Fourth of July festivities are over, but local beaches are still feeling the effects. The day after the holiday is being called the dirtiest beach day of the year. ElleMcLogan went to Rockaway Beach to find out what's being done about the mess.

It happens year after year. That's why the nonprofit Surfrider and the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy are partnering to pick it up at Rockaway Beach. The worst offender: plastic, which kills marine species through ingestion, entanglement, and suffocation.
