Watch a Húracan Sterrato take on an STO at the Ring.

On the surface, the Húracan Sterrato doesn’t stand much of a chance of beating the STO around the Ring. The STO is a track-focused machine, complete with an extensive aero package and more than 400 pounds worth of lightweighting compared to the standard car. It also packs a 640 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque variant of the Húracan’s 5.2-liter V-10 engine, up significantly from the Sterrato’s 602 hp version of that engine.

The car is lifted 1.7 inches for increased ground clearance and features 1.2-inch and 1.3-inch wider tracks front and rear. Underbody skid plates help keep the powertrain safe, while Bridgestone Dueller off-road tires provide improved traction on loose surfaces. The reworked bodywork, bolt-on flares, and roof scoop further solidify the car’s mission. All of those tweaks mean that the Sterrato isn’t forced to take the same line as the low-slung STO.

The clip begins with head of Lamborghini Motorsports Maurizio Reggiani pushing the STO down part of the Nurburgring, before Lamborghini CTO Rouven Mohr appears behind the wheel of the Sterrato. The senior executive uses the car’s ability to drive over loose surfaces to pass the STO, before that model’s superior horsepower comes back into play. Of course, Mohr has no problem using all of the available surface, cutting back in front of the STO with a glorious slide across the grass near.

Lamborghini only plans to sell 1499 examples of the Sterrato, though no pricing information is available at this time. Don’t expect the model to come cheap, especially when you consider it might just be the final Lamborghini to pack the naturally-aspirated V-10 engine.Born and raised in Metro Detroit, associate editor Lucas Bell has spent his entire life surrounded by the automotive industry.
