The lonely rusting structure comes into view as I steer my rented skiff through the confusing channels of Ocean County’s Great Bay. I’m heading to a unique island to the Northwest of the Rutgers University Marine Field Station.
My goal? A visit to the crumbling abandoned fish factory perched on the east side of the 100.2-acre Crab Island. It’s part of a group of islands known as Seven Islands located in Little Egg Harbor Township.
