at the moment—she’s the most streamed artist on Spotify in her native country, and boasts a whopping 42.5 million followers on Instagram—but even as she got ready for the 2019 Latin Grammys, which took place in Las Vegas last Thursday, she still seemed pleasantly surprised by her global success given her humble origins. Anitta grew up in one of Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, and she never imagined she would be singing in other countries, she said, let alone fly on an airplane.
Now, though, Anitta let us into her hotel room as she got ready for the awards ceremony. She was not only nominated for her recently released album, but she also performed a tribute to Cuban singer Celia Cruz at the start of the ceremony, singing “La Vida es un Carnaval.
