"The backlash was swift, immediate, and quite loud," he said Monday on his podcast The Problem With Jon Stewart.
It was revealed Sunday that the Department of Energy, which oversees several U.S. labs and research centers, made a judgment of"low confidence" that the virus originated in a lab before spreading. "‘Oh, my God, there’s a novel respiratory coronavirus overtaking Wuhan, China. What do we do?’ ‘Oh, you know who we could ask? The Wuhan novel respiratory coronavirus lab.’ The disease is the same name as the lab. That’s just a little too weird, don’t you think?" he said at the time.
