News of the incident spread quickly and an angry crowd descended on a Boulder City Council meeting.
A viral cell phone video has sparked controversy as it shows police officers in Colorado brandishing weapons at a black man who said he was simply picking up trash outside his home.
Boulder Police said that officers saw the man sitting behind a private property sign on 1 March and asked if he was allowed to be there. In the video recorded by a neighbor, the man swore and yelled:"I don't have a weapon,” before demanding the officer leave his property. Other officers soon arrived, with at least one holding a shotgun.After a request from the officers, he shouted: “No, I will not sit down, I refuse to sit down until you guys put your f***ing weapons away."
A police statement said:"Officers ultimately determined that the man had a legal right to be on the property and returned the man's school identification card. All officers left the scene and no further action was taken.”
