Parts of 300 East in Salt Lake City are closed after a water main break flooded the road between 800 South and 900 South.

Salt Lake City police posted videos of the flooded roadway on Twitter, asking the public to avoid the area while repairs are made. The road could remain closed "for the next several hours," police said inChloe Morroni, a spokeswoman for the city's Department of Public Utilities, said a 12-inch water main broke, damaging the road and impacting the water supply to a senior housing facility nearby.
"We're thinking that we'll be able to have that senior housing complex up and running again by sometime this afternoon," she said. "It'll take a couple of weeks to do the road repair." The main was installed in 1978, and Morroni said it "likely" broke because of its age, but the cause hasn't been determined.
"It's unfortunate, obviously, for those folks in the senior living facility, but thankfully it's not impacting a larger area," she said.300 East from 800 South to 900 South is closed.
