City will pass along increases coming from Metropolitan and San Diego County Water Authority
Oceanside’s water rates could climb 6 percent in 2024 and another 6 percent in 2025 under a proposal outlined this week by the city’s water utilities director.
Notices of the proposed increase will be mailed out to customers next week, Leahy said. Customers who oppose it have until the day of the City Council meeting to file a written protest, and if a majority of the water customers oppose it, the proposed increase will be overturned. A sewer rate increase also is proposed. If approved, it would be 4 percent in 2024 and 2.5 percent in 2025. The total sewer increase averages out to an additional $1.12 a month for the lowest bills and $1.61 monthly for the highest bills.“Nobody likes to see an increase,” said Commissioner Darin Vey, but he added that the reasoning for it “makes a lot of sense.”
Oceanside’s rates are near or below the middle of those charged by agencies across San Diego County, Leahy said.
