The RCMP National Memorial Service, held annually on the second Sunday of September, honours regular members, special constables, auxiliary constables and civilian members who lost their lives in the line of duty.Family for all three inductees were in attendance, including Cst Poapst’s father Doug Poapst, who described the ceremony as “outstanding.”Poapst said his son began his career with the RCMP “later in life,” and was just shy of 13 years service when he died in 2019.
“One thing I remember him saying is that his most important weapon was his mouth, his ability to talk,” he said. “He could talk to anybody about anything, and I think that served him well.”
