Wednesday afternoon marked one of those gloriously sunny, unusually warm, fog-free days in San Francisco, with temperatures rising into the 80s.
Residents flocked to Dolores Park, Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach to bask in the balmy weather that so many places around the country get in summer but the city most often sees in fall. In fact, SF sees warmer weather in September and October on average compared to July and August. Fall is often referred to as summer in San Francisco.
The hottest locations could flirt with 100 degrees. The weather service issued a heat advisory for 11 a.m. Thursday through 11 p.m. Friday for the South Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains and the bay shoreline, including San Francisco. “Never leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles,” the weather service warned. The warmup is a typical fall pattern with the ocean breeze slackening, the fog dissipating and offshore winds blowing hot air from inland valleys toward the coast.
