The weather service warned of strong winds and whiteout conditions.
The agency said Thursday that anyone planning to drive in the mountains should finish their travel by 1 p.m. Friday.
"Travel is HIGHLY DISCOURAGED through Monday night! Blowing winds & heavy snow will cause whiteout conditions," the weather service shared on"We're seeing a break right now but unfortunately it's not going to last long," Corey Mueller, a forecaster with the weather service's Sacramento office, told SFGATE on Thursday."Rain and snow move back in Friday afternoon and evening.
⚠️Dangerous mountain travel conditions are forecast tomorrow - Monday. If you have travel plans, it will be best to finish your travel by 1 pm tomorrow. Travel is HIGHLY DISCOURAGED through Monday night! Blowing winds & heavy snow will cause whiteout conditions.
