San Ramon Valley quarterback Luke Baker throws for 500 yards, McClymonds Jaivian Thomas runs for 263 as McClymonds wins 45-42
OAKLAND – Jaivian Thomas ran for four touchdowns, each one seemingly more improbable than the last. But it was his non-scoring scamper deep in the fourth that was possibly the most consequential of his carries. McClymonds was reeling, having blown a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter and now tied 42 apiece with the visiting San Ramon Valley.
He took the handoff around the 30-yard line, and evaded one tackler. Then another whiffed as Thomas accelerated downfield. By the time the Wolves got him on the ground, Thomas had run for 41 yards and given the Oakland Athletic League powerhouse some momentum. A few more carries got McClymonds into field goal range, and the Warriors kicked the field goal to go up 45-42.
But that still gave San Ramon Valley quarterback Luke Baker two and a half minutes to work with. The junior quarterback had been nothing short of herculean against McClymonds’ vaunted pass rush, completing 39 of his 57 attempts as he threw for 500 yards and five touchdowns. He was able to drive the team downfield, but McClymonds held firm on its last defensive stand and forced a long field goal that came up short.
