For years, he dispensed common sense on sports for parents, coaches and players of all ages.

Wolff spent his 25-year WFAN career dispensing advice to parents with ridiculous expectations, overbearing coaches and players of all ages — a calming voice of reason in a me-first sports world spiraling out of control. Ironically, his show found a home on WFAN, home to hot takes and screaming hosts.

“To know Rick or Dad or Pops was to love him,” the family’s obit read. “He was wise, thoughtful, sharp, funny, incredibly smart, and truly just a wonderful person. In his honor, please remember to never give up on your dreams. He never did, even after so many of them had come true.” Wolff played baseball at Harvard and spent two years in the Tigers’ farm system in the 1970s before he was hired by the Cleveland Indians as their first sports psychologist coach from 1989-94. He eventually took that wisdom into a radio career. His show on WFAN began in 1998. A book editor, he wrote 18 books of his own.
