Alabama currently requires 24 credits to graduate from high school, and with most schools offering a 7-period day, students can earn as many as 28 credits, Alabama State Superintendent Eric Mackey told board members during a discussion of possible changes to the high school diploma. meaning four courses each in English language arts, math, social studies and science. Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and career tech courses can be substituted for some of those requirements.
