After 18 months in basketball purgatory, the Nuggets are legitimate NBA title contenders once again.
Remember those two weeks of blissful basketball in the wake of the Aaron Gordon trade back in the spring of 2021? We’re headed back to Pleasure Town, folks. And it’s going to be glorious. Eventually.
It will be worth tracking how the Nuggets handle both returning players. Will there be minutes restrictions early on? Perhaps one will sit for the front half of a back-to-back, and the other does the same on the back half? Can stars Nikola Nokic, Murray and MPJ sit for long stretches and not see first-quarter gains squandered? The answer to that question likely hinges on second-year guard Bones Hyland’s ability to quarterback the second unit.
Jeff Green is a lock at backup power forward, but some roles could change over the course of the season: Namely at wing and big man . That Malone has so many options stands in stark contrast to where things were a year ago.Malone set the bar high this preseason when he declared his desire for the Nuggets to be a top-five NBA defense.
