Could this really be the end for Gov. Andrew Cuomo? And how would an impeachment change New York politics, and the political fortunes of the two women who might replace or succeed him? Women Rule asked annagronewold. 👇

That’s the question on my mind as I’m watching the fallout unfold from New York Attorney GeneralIt’s already had a big impact in New York. The leader of New York Democrats, party chair, who had previously only called to wait for the investigation to conclude, called his conduct “repulsive” and “unlawful” but stopped short of calling on him to resign.

However, if you’re weighing those options, would you rather step down on your own terms or be kicked out? I think that it would probably come on his own terms. And so my expectation, if I were to guess at this very moment in time, noon on Thursday, is that he holds out a little bit longer until the very last possible second and then spares himself and a lot of other people the really ugly trouble of going through the entire impeachment process.

There’s also the whole … I don’t even know how I could explain this, but I think anyone who is watching politics knows there’s the thing about New York politicians. It’s big personalities. It’s big statements. It’s big moves. They have to love the stage a little bit. And these interesting or even tragic ends kind of fit right into that.Right. And there are two women who might succeed Cuomo.

“Shontel Brown — the chosen candidate of the caucus — would honor ‘the rich history’ of the group, not be someone who fights against it while ‘trying to make a name for themselves,’ CBC Chairwoman Joyce Beatty said while campaigning in the district Saturday with other top Black lawmakers. Brown wouldn’t be ‘a single solitary know-it-all,’ said Rep. Bennie Thompson . She wouldn’t ‘come in and try to break up that unity,’ Rep. Gregory Meeks added.

“On the House’s penultimate day before the August recess, its Appropriations chair was clinging to the possibility of success on a divisive spending bill that many of her colleagues already knew was dead. DeLauro didn’t want to accept that the legislation, which funded the Department of Justice and tackled controversial policies from policing funds to firearms sales, simply didn’t have the votes.
