Here’s how to help ⤵️
We know that our futures are at risk, and that if action does not happen now more disasters will come. We have to slow climate change itself but we also need to prepare ourselves for what happens between now and then.ready our communities to manage the consequences of climate change, like more extreme weather. This is how disaster management fits into the climate movement.
The disasters of the past few years have shown us that the helpers need help. People across the country are overwhelmed by the endless parade of disasters, and we need your passion and talents to come help us.Spread disaster awareness: Talk about disasters when they happen. Use social media to share news stories about the people who have been affected and ways to help.
Donate: It may often only be a band-aid but it is an important one. Look for local organizations that will be doing work long into the recovery when national groups have left. Volunteer: Communities all over the country need help recovering. Just like when I went to New Orleans to help rebuild, you can go to Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, or the Carolinas to help with recovery efforts.Direct action: For those of you who are a part of the climate movement, bring attention to disaster survivors and use your platform to amplify their stories.
Study disasters: If you plan to go to college, consider a major or minor in emergency management. You’ll learn about the history of disasters, how to manage them, and what the future holds. There’s no real end in sight because we have so many people living in dangerous places as the climate changes. Just donating money isn’t enough anymore. We need to recognize the true causes of these disasters and prevent them from happening.
