Cybercriminals are looking to exploit Father's Day. A message has gained the attention of Heineken and WhatsApp, garnering statements from the companies.
Jake Moore, a global cybersecurity advisor at ESET, says that"People should always err on the side of caution and not be tempted to even check the links as this can often be all that is needed to forward on the message amplifying the scam and making it harder to be brought under control. If you have clicked on the link and forwarded the message it may be a good idea to quickly tell those contacts that this may have been a phishing scam and not to click on it.
Remember, if something appears too good to be true it usually is. What’s more, it's increasingly commonplace for it to be a scam. In this case, please don't respond to the free beer for Father's Day message or it could turn out to be a very costly pint indeed.
