The San Francisco Bay Area continued to see scattered showers Wednesday as a low-pressure system rotated counter-clockwise off the coast.
Temperatures in some spots could get close to normal but are likely to stay a few degrees below. Afternoon highs in early May are on average in the low 60s in San Francisco and in the high 60s in Oakland.
Next week, temperatures are forecast to drop further below normal as a low-pressure system pushes into the Pacific Northwest. The storm is not forecast to reach the Bay Area, but it will push cool air into the region. “There’s no sign of any type of heat wave or getting back into the 80s — for people who want to see fun in the sun,” King said.
The good news, King said, is that the late-season rains could help with wildfire conditions this summer. “We’re projecting that fire season will be delayed because of all the rain we had this winter, and when you add another little storm, it just furthers the confidence that it will start later,” King said. But while these rains may help dampen the landscape and big trees, preventing large hot-burning forest fires, they also help grasses to grow.
