Contemporary design gallerist David Alhadeff has turned a David Chipperfield–designed West Village townhouse into his ideal customer’s dream space. He also happens to be living there.
“Now more than ever, the talk of the town is that retail is dead,” says David Alhadeff, founder of contemporary design boutique the Future Perfect. “It’s easy to get customers’ information behind their computer, but very hard to get them to come visit us.
” So says the man with two retail stores—but Alhadeff, 44, thinks he’s concocted a strategy to entice shoppers away from the glare of their screens and into his more aesthetically pleasing world of whimsical design.
