The White House said the release of Evan Gershkovich is a priority for President Biden, as lawyers visitednearly a week after Russian authorities arrested him on charges of espionage.
The Journal vehemently denies the charge against Mr. Gershkovich and continues to call for his immediate release. At an initial hearing on Thursday after Mr. Gershkovich’s detention while on a reporting trip in Yekaterinburg, he was represented by a court-appointed lawyer. An attorney seeking to represent him was barred from entering the courtroom.
