Herbert Jones has earned Devin Booker's respect. Here's a look at the rookie who'll look to guard the three-time All-Star in Suns-Pelicans series.

Meet Pelicans rookie wing Herb Jones, the man who'll have the task of guarding Suns three-time All-Star Devin Booker in this best-of-7 first round series that begins Sunday at Footprint Center in Phoenix.

“Just his instincts, the intangibles of it,” Booker said when asked about Jones’ defense. “Things that you can’t teach, you can tell he’s prioritized defense for a long time and watched people and studied people, which is uncommon for a rookie.” Booker continued to praise the 6-8 Jones with the 7-foot wingspan, saying the second rounder out of Alabama doesn’t get enough credit for his abilities on offense.“He’s not scared to take those shots,” Booker said about the lefty Jones. “I think a lot of teams have shifted off him and dared him to shoot it this year and he’s been shooting it very well. He’s a really good young talent in this league.

The Republic sat down with Jones for a brief Q&A about making the playoffs as a rookie, who is the toughest player he’s had to guard this season and which the NBA All-Star gave him postgame props.Crazy. I couldn’t have guessed it, dreamed it. It’s crazy to me, but we’ve been putting in the work. So, it’s not really super surprising. I know how hard our guys work. I feel like we’re built for the moment.”I don’t think it was just a certain time.
