Chelsea’s growth is nothing new. Its population soared between 2010 and 2020, increasing by nearly 50% and pushing Chelsea from the 62nd largest city in Alabama in 2010 to No. 49 in 2020. And it hasn’t stopped growing – since the 2020 Census, Chelsea added another 1,100 people, including more than 500 between 2021 and 2022. That was a growth rate of 3.2% in just one year.Alabama residents already pay the, at an average of $632 in 2020, per the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama.
Homeowners in Chelsea and two other municipalities in Shelby County just have to pay state and county property taxes, per the Shelby County Property Tax Commissioner’s Office.
