Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo is rooting against NCAA champion UConn in the season-opener

Chris "Mad Dog" Russo will be rooting against UConn and for Northern Arizona in the season opener because his son Timmy is an assistant at Northern ArizonaThat’s because Tim Russo, one of Chris’s four children, is now an assistant coach at Northern Arizona, the opening opponent for UConn. Tim Russo was a graduate assistant at UConn last season when the Huskies stormed to the championship by winning six games by an average of 20 points.

Chris Russo was at the Final Four in Houston last spring with his wife, Jeanne, one of his close friends and a family friend. “Mad Dog” credited Dan Hurley and the UConn assistants with looking after Tim during his time at UConn and during the interview process with Northern Arizona. Chris Russo and UConn assistant Tom Moore are longtime friends.

“Coach Hurley was a little more reserved about it, but he’s so competitive and has such a driving force that I don’t even think he himself worries about having his father as a public figure in basketball.”
