Of the many twists and turns that comprised Netflix's The Night Agent was Diane Farr’s true intentions in hiring Peter Sutherland.
One of The Night Agent's biggest twists was in the reveal of Diane Farr's function as the mole, which begs the question as to why she really hired Peter Sutherland for the Night Action program in the first place. Gabriel Basso's Peter Sutherland does indeed retain the attributes for the ideal agent to cover top-secret, high-level government initiatives.

The Metro bombing also placed a certain vulnerability on Peter. Not only was he a witness of the bombing and lost the bombing suspect from his clutches, but his father, Pete Sr., was named as a traitor during the aftermath of the catastrophe.
Diane Farr's involvement with Redfield and Wick puts Peter in a predetermined position, where the Night Action program became a place for him to be monitored, controlled, and, if the scheme went wrong, scapegoated. By the end of the season, Peter is able to resolve himself of any guilt, but not before seeing Farr admit to her participation in preparing to let the innocent take the fall for her decisions.
