As the fishing industry has become less of a focus for towns along the Kentish coast, they’ve had to come up with some imaginative ways to repurpose the seafront and keep it vibrant. Luckily, that’s led to some brilliant new ideas.
Folkestone now has a Creative Quarter - an urban village of indie arts and crafts – as well as the Harbour Arm promenade with live music, bars and restaurants, and the attractive Seafront area with its public piazza and fountains. Hastings Pier was also re-developed following a fire in 2010, while in Margate the abandoned caves were reopened thanks to a local fundraiser.
Its new visitor centre also doubles up as a popular community space, and the Margate Turner Contemporary gallery opened in 2011, boosting interest in the area and
