Chicken wing prices come back to Earth in time for Houston Super Bowl parties
Jarrod Rector and his wife, Prisoria, co-owners of Stuff’d Wings, are — perhaps more than others — looking forward to this weekend’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.in the former Shipley's near Richmond and Route 59, which opened in April 2022. And chicken wing prices have come down to earth since last year's Super Bowl LVI.
“It almost challenged us to look at a business model — if we can’t get chicken wings, what are we going to stuff?” Rector recalled.“We’re a family-owned business and we care about people’s families,” Rector said. Many of the restaurant’s customers are students at the University of Houston and Texas Southern University, he said, and the couple have a policy that from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesdays, kids under 11 eat for free.
The reason prices have eased is that the supply of broiler chickens has increased, said David Anderson, economist at Texas A&M University. “It’s about six months to get a chick raised to its full-grown, egg-laying self,” he explained. “The broilers, they’re done in six or seven weeks.”So chicken wings are poised to make a triumphant return at this year's Super Bowl parties, in Houston and across the country.
At times over the past two years, Bozeman added, he's had to get creative with his menu because of shortages of various ingredients.
