The same weather front blanketing Montana to northwest Minnesota in snow will cause temperatures to plummet in the eastern U.S. early next week.
The season’s first big winter storm is rolling across the Northern Plains and northern Intermountain West, dropping heavy snow and bringing reduced visibility and plunging temperatures. That same shot of cold air will blast into the East Coast early next week, delivering a swift end to the lingering summerlike warmth.
Helena, Mont., already had 13.4 inches of snow on the ground by sunrise Thursday, and 11 inches had piled up in Stanley, N.D. Additional snow totals of 2 to 6 inches are expected as the storm pivots through North Dakota Thursday, with some accumulating snow also expected in Wyoming, South Dakota and northwest Minnesota.
