Amid all the business going on in Springfield this week, history was happening on the Illinois Supreme Court. For the first time, the majority of the state's high court are women, by a 5-2 count. And there are three Black justices on the court for the first time.

The two Democrats were both elected to the high court in November. Justice Joy V. Cunningham, who was appointed to replace retired Justice Anne M. Burke, was sworn in on Dec. 1.
