Homeless counts on the streets of L.A. County are done. Volunteers say meeting the unhoused changed their thinking.
Two days after volunteering to help count the homeless in Los Angeles County, Anthony Manousos, 73, couldn’t put out of his mind the face of a woman living on the street who was exactly his age.

Of course, the purpose of these “point-in-time” counts is to provide government and nonprofit service providers with an estimate of the size of the homeless population. Among other things, having a number helps cities and Los Angeles County receive annual Continuum of Care Program Competition funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
