With Texans in need of running back complement, these four at NFL combine might fit
Landing UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet would probably require the Texans' second-round draft pick . He'll likely be gone by the start of the third round.INDIANAPOLIS — Dameon Pierce was unleashed as a wrecking rookie running back in an unsustainable model. His usage share across the Texans’ 2022 season was almost absurd.
Pierce needs a complement. At 5-10, 212 pounds, he averaged 4.3 yards per carry with a devastating downhill running style any team envies. But he didn’t take significant strides as a pass-catcher, which was one of the slights against him entering last year’s draft cycle.
The 6-1, 220-pound Charbonnet led the nation in all-purpose yards per game and left UCLA having totaled 2,496 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns plus 518 receiving yards in two seasons. Charbonnet, who transferred to UCLA from Michigan after his sophomore season, said he stayed for a second year under Bruins coach Chip Kelly partly so he could work more on becoming a threat as a pass-catcher out of the backfield.
